February 23, 2004
On February 23, 2004, Isabelle was being spayed. As soon as the vet made the incision, she noticed fluid in Isabelle's abdonimal cavity. It was FIP, a deadly feline disease. We immediately made the decision not to wake Isabelle up and for the vet to euthanize her while she was still under anesthesia. Although Isabelle's life was cut short, it would not have taken long for her to become very ill from the disease, and it is a very nasty disease. We had recently noticed that she did not like having her stomach touched and we now know why. She was already starting to feel pain. She spent the last two weeks of her life in a foster home, lounging in a cat bed where she could look out the window. She would not have had those last two good weeks had she remained in the shelter. We are happy we were able to give her at least that small amount of quality life.
Isabelle's Story:
Isabelle had been abandoned outside the door of the shelter. They didn't even have the decency to bring her inside and surrender her properly. Isabelle is now in a foster home where she was a very confident cat from the first moment. She bravely marched around to check out her new surroundings. She likes being held and purrs like a motorboat. Isabelle is about 1 year old and will be spayed prior to adoption.
