BERT WAS ADOPTED NOVEMBER 24, 2004!
Bert is a 2-3 year old, 16-pound Pekingese. He was picked up as a stray in an unkempt and matted condition with his nails starting to grow into his pads. Our wonderful groomers at The Dog Patch in Westfield, NJ have performed “Extreme Makeover Dog Edition” on him. Please understand that this breed requires regular professional grooming. If you are not prepared for this expense, consider a lower maintenance breed. It is cruel to let a long-haired dog get into the shape Bert was in. But if taking a dog to the groomer is not a problem, then this dog will be a delight to have. He is very friendly, outgoing, well behaved and entertaining. He not only plays with toys, but he likes to roll around in a pile of toys. He gets along great with other dogs and cats. He is very respectful of the alpha dog in his foster home. If he gets too close to her (she considers 3 feet too close) and gets snarked at, he bows away as though he were saying “Pardon the intrusion, Your Highness.” Bert is always eager to meet new people. He follows his foster mom everywhere and likes to be near her, sleeping under her desk while she works. Bert is house trained and will go to the door when he wants out. If nobody notices he is at the door, he will whimper. Bert will be neutered and microchipped, is up to date on shots, heartworm negative and dewormed.
