Shane had been adopted on February 14, 2003. She went on to live a wonderful life full of walks, tennis ball fetching and a new friend, Stanley. Shane became very ill and after testing and hospitalization, her health continued to decline. She even refused her favorite food, roast beef sandwiches. Shane went to the Rainbow Bridge on Monday, May 1, 2006.

I took Shane to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital on Thursday night and they admitted her. Her fever was over 104. They started her on an IV and then on Friday they did an ultrasound of her liver, a needle aspiration and x-rays. They told me they found some masses on her spine and liver. She might also have a kidney infection and has an irregular heartbeat.
They said it could be liver cancer, but I am not sure how she can live with this. I don't think I would put her through chemo or surgery, the cost and pain to her. She is 12 years old now, but still crazy about her tennis balls. I have to think this all out. I just want her to be comfortable and happy. She has wrapped herself around my heart.

Thanks for talking to me last night on the phone. I am so sad and upset about Shane. I so wished she would get better. I had Red Bank put Shane down today. Boy this is hard. She had been getting worse and was lethargic and still not eating. There will be others, but never another Shane.
