ALVIN WAS ADOPTED NOVEMBER 6, 2000

UPDATE FROM ALVIN'S MOM:
Alvin is wonderful!!!!!! I can't imagine how we ever got along without him! He loved the car ride home on Saturday and settled right in when we got back to the apartment. He fell asleep on my lap as we both rested on his new bed and he has been perfect in the apartment. He loves his little yard and the fact that he can run in and out when we are at home...he doesn't want to
miss anything! He still hasn't decided on his favorite toy since I think we went a bit overboard in preparing for his arrival! He is eating well and we added a bit of rice to his diet to help his tummy problems. (His poops seem to be getting much better.) He is the star of the neighborhood and has already made many new four-legged and two-legged friends. We're working on our walking etiquette and learning to be a cool "city-slicker". Last night he slept in a club chair in the living room, his own decision. He conked out at 11:00 and strolled into the bedroom to see if we were awake at about 7:00. We didn't want to wake him before, he looked so comfy! I'll send you some photos of him in his new surroundings when we get around to taking some pictures. I can't thank you enough for bringing Alvin into our lives. He is truly a special, wonderful little guy!

ALVIN'S STORY:
Airedale and Dalmatian mix???  Whatever Alvin is, he is a very unique looking dog and he does point!  Alvin weighs 45 pounds at about 1 year old and is a very sweet and lovable boy.  Alvin gets along well with other dogs.  He was very cooperative in the bathtub and looks like a new dog with a month worth of shelter dirt now off of him.  Alvin is crate trained and will learn some basic commands while in foster care.  If you are looking for a pal that looks different than any of the canine buddies anyone else has, then Alvin is the dog for you!

UPDATE:
Alvin has been totally reprogrammed.  He initially would not sit on command to save his life - only for a treat.  He had to learn that praise is a better reward than treats.  He now sits on one command, plasters his behind to the ground in a split second, and is no longer given any verbal commands when given a treat.  He is sitting before the treat jar is opened!  He sits without command before his dinner bowl is placed in front of him and to have his walking collar and leash put on.  Alvin has learned how to heel and he also casual walks on a loose lead.  He now has pretty much free run of the basement and yard when someone is home and has proven to be very trustworthy and housebroken.  A very smart guy!
