On Christmas Day, 1999, a vet tech pulled into the parking lot of the animal hospital on her way to tend to those hospitalized for the holiday.  Right there in the parking lot, tied to the dumpster, was a little red cocker spaniel mix.  After spending some time at the vet's office, Benny came into a foster home.  Benny (now Riley) was adopted and almost a year later, the latest update from his mom:
I am just so thankful we got this dog.  And, remembering the circumstances of how he was found tied up last Christmas, I am so glad you rescued him, and  that he has a (very!) devoted family this year.  He is so worth the time/responsibility he takes, because he gives back so much.  He is a great companion for me working at home, totally devoted, a good little traveler, and gets me outside and walking every day, so much better than a gym membership!!! The kids just shopped PetValu for his stocking, and he is going to have a great "haul."  We are just dotty about him, and he has been such a happy focus for us after a yucky time following the divorce, etc.  I am looking forward our relocation to Tennessee, and am crossing my fingers that we will be moving soon to be near our extended family and get a fresh start in 2001.
