BUDDY WAS ADOPTED JUNE 9, 2000!
CONGRATULATIONS TO BUDDY AND HIS NEW FAMILY!
BUDDY'S STORY:
Poor Buddy has a particularly sad story.  Regardless, he is very forgiving and just needs a kind and gentle person to assure him he will never be mistreated again.

Buddy's original owner was an elderly man.  He often beat Buddy with his cane.  When the owner would become ill and be hospitalized, he would forget all about Buddy, leaving him locked in the house for 3 days at a time with nobody to let him out or give him food or water.  Eventually, the owner would remember Buddy and call a neighbor to go take care of him.  This occurred on several occasions.

Then one day Buddy's owner passed away.  The family did not want to be bothered with Buddy and they decided to dump him on the streets to let him fend for himself.  A kind lady heard about Buddy's plight and offered to take him in and try to find him a home.  She advertised at her church and asked everyone but in the 2 months she has had Buddy, she has had no luck in finding him a permanent place to live.  Living in an apartment where dogs are not allowed and trying to make ends meet on unemployment, this lady let Buddy live with her and took him the vet for a checkup, heart worm testing and heart worm preventative.  It was a vet bill that she really couldn't afford.  The previous owner's family had told her that Buddy's shots were up to date but they never provided proof of this.  She offered to get him his shots for us in preparation for his adoption but she has already done so much that Friends of the Linden Animal Shelter will take care of getting Buddy his shots.  She has also agreed to keep fostering Buddy until we find him a home.

Buddy is sweet boy.  He anxiously greeted us when we went to meet him and take his photos.  We went outside on a leash and did a little preliminary obedience work.  Although it frightened him, he paid close attention and did what was asked of him.  We were able to get him to walk nicely on the leash without pulling and to sit.  Buddy would be a star pupil in an obedience class.  He has what it takes to learn quickly but he would need a very gentle handler as firm commands scare him.  Obedience school would also bolster his self esteem.  He needs lots of praise to know he is a good boy!

Buddy has often been around a 3 year old girl, the niece of the lady he currently lives with, and she says he is excellent around her.

Buddy is housebroken, has been left alone in the apartment and has not been destructive.  He has been taught to stay off of the furniture with the use of penny cans.  Buddy appears to be friendly towards other dogs and although he wants to chase cats, it might be more in the spirit of playing rather than intending harm.

Buddy is a beagle/hound/pointer mix with white and tan fur.  He is about 35 pounds and is already neutered.  If you are the person who could make Buddy happy for the rest of his life, please e-mail us!
