ELMO WAS ADOPTED FEBRUARY 11, 2007!
Elmo is about 1 1/2 years old and had been found by animal control running the streets, not using his left front leg. They took him to the vet where his leg was x-rayed and found to have a break near the elbow. He had most likely been hit by a car. His leg was stabilized with a bandage and Elmo went to sit in the shelter on stray hold. When he was not claimed, we went to get him and brought him into one of our foster homes. We took Elmo to see a surgeon where his leg was x-rayed again. The healing process seems to have started and there has been no movement in the break so Elmo will not need surgery. His leg was splinted and it will need to stay in a splint with restricted activity for 6 weeks. His leg should then be good as new. Elmo has been heartworm tested, dewormed, treated with Frontline and has been given rabies and distemper shots. He will be neutered and have his cherry eye fixed as soon as we can get it scheduled.
Elmo is a very sweet boy who loves to sit in laps and give kisses. His most favorite thing is belly rubs and he will roll right over to let you know that is what he wants. The surgeon was very impressed that he did not required sedation for x-rays and splinting his leg. He was very well behaved for both. Elmo is white with charcoal gray markings and weighs 15 pounds. Although he gets along very well with other dogs, he would not be able to interact with other dogs until his leg is healed. Elmo is housetrained.
