Tara was only in her new home a couple of weeks when she became very ill.  She was immediately taken to the vet where she stayed until she passed away in her sleep on September 28, 2000.  It seemed that she was having pancreas and liver problems.  We are so grateful to Tara's new mom and dad for being there for her and for having given her such a loving home.  Had fate not intervened, Tara would have been put down at the shelter months before without  having known what it was like to have been adopted.
TARA WAS ADOPTED AUGUST 23, 2000!

Update from Tara's new mom:
Everything still going great here, Tara spent the weekend on my husband's lap. She eats a little more every day and naps with Hank in the "cat suite". They're not really friendly, but tend to move around together. Keeping score on pets and treats, probably. There have been no fights whatsoever, though, so that's wonderful. I'm sure you've seen a cat fight before - not pretty!
Tara's already adapted to the most important family ritual - that's we stand in the kitchen in the evening, petting the cats who are sitting on our stools. She had that routine down pat the second night.

Update on Tara:
Tara was taken to an outdoor adoption event.  She was miserable in her carrier so we put a collar and leash on her and was there ever a transformation!  You should have seen her work that crowd.  She never tried to get away, approached anyone who wanted to pay attention to her, rolled over for belly rubs  and just razzled and dazzled everyone.  It is for this reason that Tara was taken into a nursing home for pet therapy and Tara was one therapeutic cat!  Nobody expected to see a cat in the nursing home - it created quite a stir.  Tara did beautifully and brought smiles to the many faces of those who don't normally have a reason to smile.  She also enjoyed herself immensely, purring and socializing nonstop.  Just see for yourself:

Now this is a cat with purrsonality!  Nobody could believe that Tara was a discarded cat nobody wanted.  She is, though, one of those rare cats that is not freaked out by noises and commotion - she loves it!
Tara's Story:
Can you believe that someone would be so cruel and heartless as to just turn me over to the Animal Control after I have devoted 5 years of my life to being their faithful companion?  They felt that 3 cats were too many and that I, being the oldest, had to go.  I just don't get it.  I would have never gotten rid of my family.  Why would they want to get rid of me?  Cat's don't cause any problems.  All you have to do is give us food and water and scoop our litter boxes.  It's not like we need to be walked or played with or reprimanded constantly.  And I can't even scratch up the furniture because I was declawed.  I can't have babies either because I am spayed.  And I am so sweet and affectionate.  Whenever I see a human I just want to rub my head against them and purr.  So here I am, the perfect pet, hauled off to the pound to be euthanized.  Well, my foster mom saw me and she just would have none of that so she took me home even though she had no room for me.  There were already many other foster animals in her home.  I started out in the garage with a fan blowing because it was very hot outside.  After about a week I was able to move into the basement when a spot opened up.  My favorite place to hang out is on a rug on top of the upright freezer.  That is where I now lay waiting for someone to come and adopt me.
