SIMBA AND SIMONE WERE ADOPTED SEPTEMBER 5, 2000!

Simba and Simone's Story:

Simba (male orange tabby) and Simone (female dilute tortoiseshell) were picked up by Linden Animal Control without a mom.  They were about 4 weeks old (8/6/2000) and were trying really hard to eat on their own but they would dive into their food head first and come out looking like they had been mud wrestling!  Because bathing them after every meal was not feasible, not to mention not good for them, the bottle was introduced.  Their meals consist of a mixture of dry kitten food soaked in water, canned kitten food and kitten formula.  Do they ever love their bottle!  Simba eats first because he eats really fast.  He attacks his bottle with gusto and gets that suction action going, draining his bottle in no time.  His little purr motor runs continuously while he is eating.  Simone, in a very unladylike manner, chews the nipple of the bottle with the side of her mouth and  slops food all over her face but never fear, Elliot, the Doberman Pinscher, is here!  Elliot stands with his nose mere inches from a feeding kitten and should any delicious kitten mush dribble down the side of a little kitty face, Elliot dutifully gives it one big swipe with his tongue and voila!  Clean kitten!  In fact, as each kitten is done eating, it is presented to Elliot for a thorough face and neck washing.  We, thanks to co-foster parent Elliot, have the cleanest baby kitties in town!
 Simba and Elliot
It is sad, though, because as hard as Elliot and I try to be substitute cat moms, it just isn't the same.  At night, Simba and Simone lay next to each other in sardine style nursing formation, kneading and suckling on the inside of their furry kitty bed.  But otherwise, they are healthy and happy and playful.

(Honest, they do have a very comfy cat bed - they just don't always choose to use it!)
