HUNTER WAS ADOPTED DECEMBER 5, 2000

We had seen Hunter at the shelter for over a month.  Every week when we came looking for dogs, Hunter would sit there looking so sad and dejected.  We didn't take him because we had other beagles up for adoption at the time.  But his sad little face just haunted us so it was our mission to go and get Hunter out of the shelter and into a foster home.  Was he ever grateful!  He perked right up and transformed into the kindest, most gentle and playful little guy.  He is excellent in the car, endured his bath without complaint, and even sat perfectly still without even tensing when the vet drew blood for his heartworm test.  So, you might ask, how did Hunter find himself at the shelter?  He was an owner surrender and the reason the previous owners deposited him at the shelter totally floored us.  "Not able to obedience train" was the reason.  What on earth had they expected him to do?  Backward flips?  It is the nature of the beagle not to excel in obedience.  Have you ever seen one in obedience trials?  But as far as beagles go, Hunter sits with precision on command, he comes when called, he is 100%housebroken, he gets along great with other dogs and cats.  Bottom line is, we can find no fault with him.  We truly believe the fault was with the previous owners, not Hunter.  Hunter is 4 years old, is a little overweight at 44 pounds, is neutered, up to date on his shots and heartworm negative. Many children ran up to Hunter to pet him at our adoption event and he was wonderful with them.
