BELLE WAS ADOPTED JUNE 3, 2000!!!
Congratulations to Belle and her new aunt and her new mom...

Update:
Belle's new mom doesn't have e-mail, so I will just write a little about our follow-up phone conversation on June 6.  I am not allowed to write too much, however, because Belle's new mom is afraid I might jinx her good luck!
Belle is absolutely adored in her new home.  She has had no accidents and doesn't tear things up.  (Just a couple of the advantages of adopting an adult dog!).  Belle gets walked 4 times per day (the lucky girl) and has grandchildren visiting her and lavishing attention on her.  In fact, the grandchildren call often, even from as far away as Florida, and immediately ask, "How's Belle?"  No more "How's Grandma?" or "How's Grandpa?".  Nope, just "How's Belle?"  Belle will be getting spayed soon.  Belle's mom is now making her appointment.  We are so glad to hear that everyone is so happy that they have found each other!  It was just meant to be!
Belle's Story...
Belle
Belle was picked up as a stray by the City of Linden Animal Control.  It was apparent that she had been very neglected all her life and had never been groomed or even brushed.  Her hair was so matted that she could not hold her head up and she could not walk.  There were sticks and twigs sticking out of her fur and it was impossible to tell what else was in there!  After spending the required 7 days at the pound, we were finally allowed to get Belle out and help her.  She was whisked off for a day at the doggie spa.  The groomer painstakingly shaved away all of her fur, inch by inch.  She would work on Belle for a while, then go take care of another customer, then back to Belle.  Belle was in the beauty shop for over 6 hours!  Her nails were so long that they had started to curl under.  She came out looking gorgeous.  We were in such a hurry to get Belle groomed, that we didn't stop to take any before pictures.  It is a shame because you just can't get the full effect without seeing what she looked like before.  You literally couldn't see the dog under all the hair.

Belle went to the vet for her shots and a checkup.  She is healthy and just requires a special shampoo every 7-10 days a couple of times to get her skin conditioned because it is a little flaky from the neglect.

Belle loves children.  She runs around the yard with them and just looks like the happiest dog on earth!  Belle also adores stuffed toys and will forage through the basket of toys unable to make up her mind which one she wants.  She actually wants them all!

Belle spent an afternoon at the local nursing home doing pet therapy visitations.  Only those dogs that are absolutely trustworthy to be kind and calm under any circumstances are allowed to go on nursing home visits and Belle fit the bill.  She received lots of attention and in turn put smiles on many elderly faces (as well as younger faces who were visiting)!
